If you are coming to the Western Isles as part of the Scotland Quest then you might as well get to see one of the finest beaches on the eastern side of Lewis. This cache is about half an hour's drive from Stornoway on a road that leads through the area known as Back. Just keep driving along this road until the road turns into a gravel track leading up the hill and you'll find an obvious car park park where the tarmac ends. The cache is a short walk across a bridge and round the coast to an old abandoned building. What fantastic places the folk of the old days choose for their houses (although this one may have been just a temporary summer dwelling as it is quite small).
The beach here is called Traigh Gearadha (or Traigh Garry) and is one of the two finest beaches on this side of the island. You pass the other, Traigh Mhor, on the way to and from the cache. There's another cache to find on Traigh Mhor and several more on or a short distance from the road you took to get here. If you feel like a good stretch of the legs you can carry on up the gravelled track to find another of my caches - This Must Be Nowhere!
Although this cache is part of Scotland The Quest it stands as a cache in its own right and a trip out to Traigh Gearadha will be well worth your time whether you are a visitor or local.
