O cabo que se eleva a 126 metros sobre o mar onde se encontra o monumento do Cristo Rei ficou assim denominado como "Ponta do Garajau", pois os descobridores marítimos aquando da exploração da Ilha encontraram nela imensos garajaus que sem medo sobrevoavam as barcas e os seus remos (in Elucidário Madeirense).
O Garajau constitui uma zona nobre da cidade do Caniço, possuindo belas moradias familiares. Mais recentemente, devido à sua localização próxima ao Funchal tornou-se uma zona habitacional por excelência tendo aí sido construídos vários edifícios habitacionais, hoteleiros e comerciais.A cache encontra-se numa zona emblemática deste sítio (reta do Garajau), perto do Restaurante-Bar Neptuno e Hotel Dom Pedro, mas com alguns mugglers próximos que requerem o devido cuidado. :-)
ENGLISH: This place called “Garajau” owes its name to the existence of many birds with that name (tern birds) , common in the sea around Madeira Island. Making their litters on the sea rocks, they leave the island in autumn and return in early spring . The cape that rises 126 meters above sea level where is the monument of Christ the King, was well known as "Garajau Point" because the Island discoverers during the sea exploration found immense tern birds that flew fearlessly on their boats and oars (in Elucidário Madeirense).The Garajau zone is prime area of Caniço city, with beautiful family villas. More recently , due to its location close to Funchal, it became a residential area by excellence and has been built several residential buildings, hotels, restaurants and shopping áreas.The cache is in an emblematic area of this place (reta do Garajau – straight road of Garajau) , near the Restaurant-Bar Neptuno and Hotel Dom Pedro, but with some mugglers requiring atention. :-)
