Glengorm is a fairly modern name give to a part amalgamation of farms around Sorne and Quinish that were conveyed to James Forsyth in the 1840s.
The origins of the name are unclear, although folklore, as ever, has an appealing suggestion. When Forsyth was building his mansion, he thought to call it Dun Ara, after the Dun on the coast, about a mile away. But, being advised that it would be inappropriate to do so, given the distance involved, he consulted an old woman, who, with the memories of the clearances Forsyth had recently inflicted on the glen still bitter in her mind, she suggested calling the mansion Glengorm, meaning 'Blue glen'. Forsyth was delighted, little realising that the woman's suggestion was a reference to a time when the glen really was blue...with the smoke from burning crofts and townships that he had put to the torch.
The cache is located a short-ish walk down a broad track that leads into Ardmore forest.
Just before you reach the GZ is the deserted village of Cnoc-Corrach, and, if you cast about a bit, you may find some of the remains of a building onto which has been etched a drawing of a ship. No-one seems to know why this was done.
