Congratulations to Msporge and Buglife for the FTF!

Craig Ranch Regional Park Logo

After three years and $130 million, the Craig Ranch Regional Park is finally open to the public. The park is located on the north side of Craig Road between North Commerce Street and Revere Street. Parking entrances are off Craig, Commerce, and Lone Mountain Road.

This park is approximately 170 acres in size with a further expansion of an additional 70 acres planned for the future. The land for the park was originally settled by early Vegas pioneers in 1905 and was farmed by the McFarland family until 1925. After they abandoned the ranch, George Craig and his family took over and continued farming there until the 1960s when they sold it to John Stimson who turned the ranch into a golf course which he operated until 2005 when it was taken over by the city of North Las Vegas.

Please respect the park hours which are from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM.

The park is well lit at night, but that doesn't mean we need an LPC every 528 feet.
No Lamp Post Caches!

As originally planned, the dog park was to include several separate fenced exercise areas to accomodate dogs of many sizes.  It was to be surfaced with a combination of turf and decomposed granite walkways and would include amenities such as an obstacle course and a wash down station.

The "as built" dog park is just to the northeast of this cache.  There is plenty of room for your dog to run, but the obstacle course is still to be built.  There is plenty of shaded picnic seating for you to sit and enjoy the park while your dog plays with the others who come to enjoy the day.

To the north (on the west side of the drive) is an area they call the Dog Run.  Although we can't find any firm documentation on the Parks and Recreation web site, we believe that this is where the obstacle course may be placed sometime in the future.
Original Dog Park Conception

"The Dogs of War" is a song by Pink Floyd from their 1987 album A Momentary Lapse of Reason.  It describes politicians orchestrating wars, suggesting money is the major influence behind war. Although recorded in 1987, it certainly describes what has been going on in the world for the past 13 years.

Hopefully, the dogs in the park will play nicer with each other.
