Geocache Description:

St Peter ad Vincula

This church has served it’s community for over a thousand years. It is believed that as the western end of the church has unusually thick walls, and as it is also a hilltop site it suggests that this may have once been a Norman keep.  Aisles were added during the 13th and 14th centuries and the painting and the baptismal font date around the 12th century. The nave roof was raised in the 14th century, and then in the 15th century the two porches were added.  The stone altar is from before t Henry VIII ordered stone alters to be destroyed it was hidden and was found and reinstalled as the main altar in 1937.

So although you may decide to grab this cache while passing through, maybe take 5 minutes just to explore this wonderful church and it's history.

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication. There is also a Church Micro Stats & Information page found via the Bookmark list.
