Geocache Description:

An easy cache at a really neat location most people never see when passing through Cedarburg. The Cedarburg Interurban Railway Depot is a former train station turned into Historical Society in downtown Cedarburg along the Interurban Bike Trail, with a short section of real railroad track in front of the depot.

Please replace exactly as you found it, standing on the camo taped "leg", so it's completely out of view.

Plenty of room for Trackables! [Dec 2016: container was stolen, cache is now a small size temporarily, but can still hold most trackables except large ones.]

This is a TB Hotel but not a "TB Prison" - so in the spirit of Travel Bugs, please move them along as soon and as far as you can. No need to hold TB's hostage over 1-for-1 rules etc. (No TB owner wants their TB sitting in a cache passed up when it could've moved, due to some arbitrary rule.)

This historic landmark depot is the last remaining building of the Milwaukee to Sheboygan Interurban Transit System that served Ozaukee County from 1907–1948. It later served as a photography studio, until it was recently fully restored during the 2000's. This cream city brick building located on Center Street in Cedarburg serves as the expanded Ozaukee County Archives Research Center & Museum operated by the Ozaukee County Historical Society.

The Interurban, owned by the Milwaukee Electric Railway and Light Co., was part of southeastern Wisconsin's transit system in the first half of this century. It carried passengers north to Port Washington and Sheboygan, west to Waukesha and Watertown, southwest to Burlington and East Troy and south to Racine and Kenosha. The northern route through Cedarburg ended in 1948, with the entire system shutting down in 1951. The former railway now forms the countywide Interurban Trail in Ozaukee County.

Here is a link with 3 photos and a bit more information: http://www.co.ozaukee.wi.us/history/Cedarburg/InterurbanStation.htm
In the top photo in that link, you can see there were 2 railroad tracks to accommodate simultaneous North and Southbound trains.

The Interurban is actually pretty cool, surprisingly it ran downtown Port Washington literally along the sidewalk where HWY 33 does a left turn by the old Smith Brothers.

A very special First to Find goes to furryhermit, who found this cache 5 MONTHS BEFORE IT WAS PUBLISHED!! He happened to stumble across it while looking to place his own geocache and contacted me via my markings written on the cache container! Congratulations furryhermit! And thanks for the epic story I will share for years to come. :)
