Geocache Description:

cache is located at Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park.

Wat Singha Located north of Wat Phra Si Iriyabot, Wat Singha was laid out in a retangular plan and enclosed with a laterite wall. At the front of the temple is a base of a large building. The base in the form of lotuses decorated with ringlike a large mouldings was designed for ritual walking in a clockwise direction. Low laterite walls were built along two sides of the base. The front was decorated with stuccoed statues with laterite cores of lions and gate guardians. Eight pedestals for sima stones around the base suggest that the building was a large ordination hall. However, since a structure above floor-level for monks to sit on was found along the southern wall of the building, this building was first used in the Sukhothai period as a vihara, and then later, in the Ayutthaya period, as an ordination hall. The sima stones were carved from slate with floral designs and Kanok motifs decorative patterns of the Ayutthaya period. Next to the base of the vihara which was later modified as an ordination hall, are remains of the principal chedi enclosed with in a boundary wall. Only an unadorned square base and another square one in the form of lotuses are still in existence. The lower part of this main chedi had niches on four sides. This chedi was made of brick instead of the usual laterite. Evidence from a photograph taken during the reign of King Rama V of the Rattanakosin period, and from fragments of mouldings around the base of the body, suggest that the principal chedi of Wat Singha was bell-shaped, on a square receding-tiered base, similar to the principal stupa of Wat Kamphaeng Ngam in the Aranyik area of Kamphaeng Phet. Outside the boundary wall enclosing the Buddhavasa precinct, building bases of different sizes were found. These were probably the bases of Sala and houses for monks
