Geocache Description:

A brief "Photo Opportunity" event in celebration of astronaut Rick Mastracchio's planned visit to the International Space Station.

What:
On November 6th at 11:08 p.m. EST (November 7th at 04:08 a.m. GMT), Astronaut Rick Mastracchio is scheduled to embark on a mission to the ISS. Included in his plans is a visit to the ISS Geocache by Travel Bug TB5JJN1. Unfortunately I can't provide similar travel to cachers or hitchhikers. But I can take a moment to visit a museum which houses a collection of artifacts involved in human spaceflight, including the Space Shuttle Discovery which flew 39 times from 1984 through 2011 spending a total of 365 days in space.

I'll be doing so, and while there intend to snap a few geocaching related pics among the exhibits. Come join me!

Where:
Udvar-Hazy Center
14390 Air and Space Museum Parkway
Chantilly, Virginia 20151

When:
Thursday
November 7, 2013
4:30-5:00 PM

Schedule:

  • 4:30 PM - 4:59 PM Take pictures. We'll hopefully have a few extra hands around the Discovery to help with shots. Feel free to roam around though. Perhaps somewhere in the exhibits is a great geo-mobile, geo-tool, or geocache container to snap a photo of. Wear your best geo-attire and feel free to bring along a couple TBs or geo-props to use in pictures. Please note, however, that tripods and monopods are not allowed.
  • 5:00 PM Group Photo at Space Shuttle Discovery. In the Human Spaceflight section of the James S. McDonnell Space Hangar.

Additional details:

  • Museum admission is free.
  • Parking, however, is $15 prior to 4:00 PM. After 4:00 PM, parking is free.
  • Museum is open 10:00 AM - 5:30 PM
  • Please review the museum visiting tips. Specifically: Minimize Carry-Ons, Dress Comfortably, No Outside Food and Drink, and Please Take Photos
  • Please review the museum security screening information.
  • This is a "photo op" event. However, taking (or appearing in) a photo is not required, nor is bringing a camera. Being willing to lend a helping hand and snap a shot for someone else on their camera, however, is required.
  • Feel free to note in your log (or privately to me via my profile) if you prefer to not have photographs of yourself posted online. Such requests will attempt to be honored.
Note: All space-related items pictured on the cache page can be found in the museum.
