We ask that all cachers please respect all property at the sites where our caches are set. Located at 8801 East 66th Street in Raytown, Missouri, this is the farmhouse of Archibald Rice. The house was reportedly built in the 1830s, although it has been somewhat changed and is today known as the Rice-Tremonti House. The Santa Fe Trail passed northeast of the house, and travelers wrote about stopping for produce. The oldest standing frame house in Jackson County, Missouri, the Rice-Tremonti Home along with Aunt Sophie's Cabin have borne witness to the sweep of American history. This site was settled first in 1836 by Archibald Rice and family. They built the Gothic-Revival farm house in 1844. With beginnings as a way-point on the Santa Fe Trail and as jumping off point for emigrants to Oregon and California the wooden house endured the ravages of border warfare and the Civil War. With a history spanning 173 years, the Rice-Tremonti Home has an important story to tell. Check their website at: www.rice-tremonti.org for current hours of operation or tour options. Call about hosting your tour group anytime or to arrange a private showing, 816-333-3586. Cache is located on the grounds and is accessible at all times. Please respect the museum property. ** This cache was placed with permission from the Historical Society that manages the Property **
