StQ - Argyll & Bute
The Argyll and Bute council area was created in 1996, when it was carved out of the Strathclyde region. The administrative centre for the council area is located in Lochgilphead. Argyll & Bute area has a long history. The most famous place being Dunadd, a Iron Age and later hillfort near Kilmartin and believed to be the capital of the ancient kingdom of Dál Riata.
