Dia 36 - Passeio turístico
 Passepartout dirigiu-se para o porto Victoria contemplando os palanquins, os carrinhos de vela, ainda em uso no Celeste Império, e toda a multidão de chineses, japoneses e de europeus que se comprimiam nas ruas. Com pequenas diferenças, era ainda Bombaim, Calcutá ou Singapura que ele encontrava no seu trajeto.
Passepartout chegou ao porto Victoria. Ali, na embocadura do rio Cantão, havia um formigueiro de navios de todas as nações, ingleses, franceses, americanos, holandeses, navios de guerra e de comércio, embarcações japonesas ou chinesas, juncos, sempas, tankas, e mesmo barcos de flores que pareciam canteiros sobre as águas. Passeando, Passepartout notou um certo número de nativos vestidos de amarelo, todos com idade muito avançada. Tendo entrado num barbeiro chinês para se barbear “a là chinesa” soube pelo Figaro do lugar, que falava um inglês muito bom, que todos aqueles velhos tinham pelo menos oitenta anos, e que nessa idade tinham o privilégio de usar a cor amarela, que é a cor imperial.

Day 36 - Sightseeing
 Passepartout headed for Victoria Harbour, examining the palanquins, the wind-driven wheelbarrows still in use in the Celestial Empire, and the large crowds of Chinese, Japanese, and Europeans filling the streets. With a few exceptions, it was Bombay, Calcutta, or Singapore all over again, that the worthy fellow was finding on his route.
Passepartout arrived at the Harbour. There, at the mouth of the Canton River, teemed ships of all nations: British, French, American, Dutch, warships and cargo ships, Japanese and Chinese, junks, sampans, Tanka boats, and even flower boats, covering the waters like so many floating flowerbeds. As he strolled around, Passepartout noticed a number of residents dressed in yellow, all very elderly. Going into a barbers’ shop to be shaved in the Chinese fashion, he learnt from the local barber, who spoke quite good English, that these men were all at least 80 years old, and that at this age they had the privilege of wearing yellow, the imperial colour.
