Geocache Description:

Unusual container.

Please be extra vigilant for this one. It took rather a lot of time, money and effort! If it gets muggled I will not be able to replace it, which will be a great shame for those that follow. Thanks for understanding.

Thanks

A big thankyou to ryo62, poshrule, and micktooting for the help with the maintenance on this trail (and the Wednesday Walk)! It was good to meet you all and let's hope I can reciprocate the help on your trails in the future.
Cheers Chaps!

With a few big trails like this it's hard to keep on top of the maintenance, so if any other well seasoned cachers are planning in advance to do this trail (or my other trails) and are happy to help out the maintenance, please feel free to get get in touch.

About the route

This is a circular route of 6.5km (4 miles) through north and central Stevenage.
The trail has been designed to be done as a bike ride making the most of Stevenages fantastic cycle paths.
This would be a great town trail for kids as there is no cycling on the roads, except for a few places where
the cycle track crosses miner cul-de-sac roads, such as on Grace Way.

Although it's probably best cycled, there is no reason why it can't be walked. Drive bys are possible at some of the caches, but this is one where its probably quicker to leave the car at home and get some exercise!

I'm going to need a rest

Half way round there is the option of a rest break where you will find numerous places to eat and drink, plenty of which have toilet facilities. If your taking this option then you will past an extra cache (not one of mine).

About the caches

There are 24 caches and a bonus cache, making a total of 25 finds to be had!

Most are log only so you will need your own pen. Also tweezers are good idea as some logs may be tricky to remove. These log only's are a mixture of standard micros and the ever more popular unusual containers. I'm also tying out some new stuff so hopefully you can look forward to a few surprises!  As well as the log only caches there some small clip lock tupperware containers dotted on route which contain swaps. The bonus cache is larger and contains lots of swaps. This has been placed towards the end of the trail. To be able to find this cache, you will need to collect the bonus information from a single puzzle token. Three have been placed along the route to increase your chance of finding one and for muggle redundancy. Remember to take a note book to copy down the bonus info and to replace the puzzle token afterwards!

Peak Times: Weekdays 7.30-9am and 3-4.30pm (term time)

Please note that this cache (and the rest on the trail) will be impossibly busy with muggles at peak cycle track times (i.e. during the school rush). It's just not worth attempting this trail at these busy times!

Summary

  • Lots of caches
  • Most should be easy finds
  • Unusual containers / hides
  • Surprises
  • Plenty of swaps
  • A large bonus cache
  • Please avoid peak times
  • Get healthy, get yer 5-a-day (hehe), get some exercise, but most of all, get on yer bike!

Glossary of TLAs

I have used LHS and RHS in some of the descriptions. Although these TLAs are popular in mathematics they are perhaps less well known generally so I thought it would be best to have an explanation. Then this got me thinking. Why not list some more of the commonly used TLAs for those new to the game. So here is a small list. By no means is it extensive or complete, but it might just help out someone. Note that I've have restricted the list to three letters, simply because I like the TLA acronym!

TLA - Three letter acronym
LHS - Left hand side
RHS - Right hand side
ICT - Ivy Covered Tree
MTT - Multi-Trunked Tree
DNF - Did Not Find
FTF - First to find
MKH - Magnetic Key Holder
LPC - Lamp Post Cache
