Remembering Jabba

A gathering of friends and geocachers alike to exchange stories, good times and have a snack while remembering our dear friend Len "Jabba" Carpenter, followed by the unveiling of the memorial bench / group photo.

When -- Saturday October 19th, 12:30 - 3:30
Where -- Merritt Island , Welland ( End of Cross St. )
What -- Possible Pot Luck 12:00 - 1:30
-- Followed by a nice walk to Jabba's Bench 1:30 - 3:30

For those that may not know Jabba, he was a kind and gentle man with a huge heart that brought great joy to much of the caching community. Unfortunately he passed away earlier this year which has left quite an empty hole in the local caching circle.

Jabba always liked a potluck event.... So in his memory I would like to make this a potluck (depending on numbers of attendees that show interest). There is a pavilion on the grounds that we can use, but the tables have already been removed for the winter season. We will need to bring our own tables and chairs. Please provide a little feedback in your “will attend” log if you like the potluck idea and if so what you would like to bring.

I mulled over the thought at a few events about creating a tribute or memorial to honor Len and received a great deal of support from everyone. After much discussion the main group of us decided on a memorial bench in Jabba's home town as the best idea. There will also be a multicache to go along with it which will include a book of memories. I hope many cachers that knew Len will be willing to share some of their memories or stories in it. The book will be at the event to get it started and following that, go into the multicache.

Let's all hope we have good weather that day so we can share in some good food, great stories, and a nice walk down to the memorial bench for a group photo.
