Only 25 feet deep and home to brook and rainbow trout, Gold Lake is popular for fishing canoeing, rafting, and rowing due to the restriction on motorboats. Situated in the open alpine forest, Gold Lake Trail begins in a dense section of old growth forest of fir and passes through the Gold Lake Bog Natural Research Area before looping back to the trailhead. Look for huckleberries, wildflowers, and lots of wildlife. This cache can be accessed from Gold Lake Campground or Waldo Lake Road (Forest Service Road 5987).
