The day included a workshop to teach scouts how to use a GPS, 15 traditional caches, 2 multicaches (reverse of each other) and a relay cache.
What is a relay cache? It is a bit like a multi but you need to rely on separate members of your team to gather some of the clues for you. It was something we made up for this event. You have a team (patrol) of six which you slit up into pairs. There were six traditional caches to be found (two per pair). The first pair goes and finds their cache and then returns and tags the next pair who opens their cache coordinates and find their cache and so on until all caches are found. Each cache has a clue. Once the team has all the clues they then decipher the clues to find the final GZ.
Overall, the day was a great success and hopefully we were able to generate some new members in the geocaching community. Next time we would probably do an overnight camp to give us more time to run the activities. Attached is a picture of the badge that was awarded to the participants. South Googong has some interesting history and scenery all of which you will see in doing this and other caches in the area.
Anyway, this cache is one in a small series of caches to celebrate this event and my daughters (Emma) achievement. This is a log only cache and please bring your own pen.
Note also that this area is only open between 8am and 5pm daily.
