Elveszett helyek - Kápolna a Golgota téren

A józsefvárosi Kálvária - ma Golgota - téren 1749-ben épített kálváriát Mayerhoffer András építőmester.
A népszerű barokk műalkotás azonban tönkrement az idők során, 1893-ban elbontották és áthelyezték az Epreskertbe, ahol Stróbl Alajos próbálta megmenteni. Miután Józsefváros kálvária nélkül maradt, a székesfővárosi tanács és az Orczy család úgy döntött, hogy jelentős összeggel támogatja egy új kálvária megépítését.

Az adakozásnak köszönhetően a józsefvárosiak 1897-től már a kálvária helyére felépült neoklasszicista kupolás kálváriakápolnában hallgathatták a szentmisét vasár- és ünnepnapokon, mindaddig, amíg a gyarapodó számú gyülekezet ki nem nőtte a helyet, s a Rezső téri Magyarok Nagyasszonya-plébániateplomba nem költözött.

A második világháború idején a kápolna súlyos sérüléseket szenvedett, de nem elsősorban ezért nyilvánították életveszélyessé és a forgalmat akadályozóvá, hanem mert létezése ideológiailag is zavarta az akkori kommunista vezetőket. Végül az épületet 1971-ben felrobbantották.
A robbantás a keresztutat is tönkretette, melynek nyolcadik stációját nem sokkal korábban restaurálták. Ez az alkotás a Rezső téri templom melletti emlékmű központi domborműve lett.

A Golgota tér közepén egy talapzatra felállított, hét méter magas kettős kereszt Mihály Gábor szobrászművész alkotása.

Lost Places - Chapel of the Golgota tér

In 1749, András Mayerhoffer has been built a calavary in this small square (nowadays called: Golgota tér)
The years passed by, the popular Baroque piece of art was ruined, it has been demolished in 1893 and it has been moved to the "Epreskert" (Mulberry-garden) where Alajos Stróbl tried to save it. As the place left without the calvary the Metropolitan Council and the Orczy family decided that they will support for the construction of a new chapel with a significant amount. The plan was successful, the citizens of the district ( nowadays called Józsefváros) could listen the worship on sundays in a new, neoclassical domed calvary-chapel in 1897. As long as the growing number of congregation has outgrew the space, and must moved to the Our Lady of Hungary Parish church in the Rezső square.

During the Second World War, the chapel suffered serious injuries but not this was the only reason to declared to be life-threatening, but because its existence disturbed the then leaders communist ideology...
Finally, in 1971, the building was exploded. The blast also destroyed the way of the cross, which had just been renovated. The eight station of the cross was rescued from the ruins, this part will be the central relief of the memorial place in the Parish church in the Rezső square.

This seven meters tall double oak cross in the middle of the Golgota tér was made by Mihály Gábor sculptor in 2013.
