Geocache Description:

The way of water from the source to the user way often may be quite long. But what are these water tanks for?

The pressure of water inceases by 0,1 bar per meter indifferent of the diameter of the pipe. In some flat regions often water-towers are constructed in peak locations to have a constant pressure for all nearby consumers. But what can be done if the pressure is too high??

Let us say that there is a fresh water source in the mountains at an altitude of 400 metres. If there is a pipe from the source to a house located in 200m altitude, the pressure would be: 40 bars! Much too, to be supported by the installation. A water pressure of max. 4 bar is normal. 10 bar's can rarely by seen on some main lines. Most of the recently installed pipes are tested up to 16 bar. So, how can this pressure be reduced? By installing non-hermetic water-tanks (or sometimes even lakes). It is important that there is an opening at the top of the tank, otherwise the whole tank would be under pressure and would be completely useless.

Small note on cache maintenance: Simboli2 has kindly offered to help. Thanks!
