** Hands On Logistics **
Welcome to training day to become a professional packager.
Preparation:
- Print out the images below in landscape mode. Card stock works best but plain paper will work
- Cut out the shapes
- Fold up along the dotted lines
- Tape each shape to form the product that will need to be packaged.
When complete you will have 3 mugs and 2 copies of each of the following books:
- Wait until Four Thirty
- Mission Four Nine One
- Three for Tea at Two
Images to Print - Save Image and then Print in Landscape mode.
Two copies of Book 1 - Wait until Four Thirty
Two copies of Book 2 - Mission Four Nine One
Two copies of Book 3 - Three for Tea at Two
Three boxes of the "Muggle Distractor" Mugs
Training Exercise #1:
Your first training exercise will be to fit these 9 items into a shipping container.
- The shipping container dimensions are 30cm x 30cm x 30cm
- The book dimensions are 20cm x 20cm x 10cm
- The mug dimensions are 10cm x 10cm x 10cm
You cannot use any larger shipping container as our logistics department has determined the lowest cost optimal shipping container for 6 books and 3 mugs is a 30cm x 30cm x 30cm container.
There is only one way the shapes can be arranged so they will fit in this sized container. You must figure out that arrangement.
Training exercise #2:
Now that you know how to arrange the products to fit in the box, you must learn how to put those products facing the right way in order to meet the customer experience quality standards.
- When customers open their shipment they must immediately recognize a product they had ordered. As such, all books must be positioned so covers are facing the exterior of the shipping container.
- When possible, distribute the products so two of the same product are not next to each other.
- To balance shipment and minimize damage during shipping, the first products placed into the container should be a mug in the bottom left corner farthest from front of the box, and then place the blue book with the cover faced down immediately to the right of the mug.
- The green books should be to the right and left of the box.
All you need is available to be printed, folded and assembled from this cache page, but there is also an online version of this puzzle to save some arts and craft work. It isn't perfect but lets you experiment with the packaging. External link is to a game that has not been checked by Groundspeak or by the Geocache Reviewer for possible malicious content. Cache owner built it to be a fun safe game, but you should visit at your own risk.
Once you have assembled and oriented the products in the box properly the coordinates will be revealed from left to right/top to bottom on two of the six sides of the box. I trust you followed the quality assurance guidelines and they will be the panels easiest for you to see without having to turn the box upside down or around!
