POMBO-TROCAZ
O pombo-trocaz (Columba trocaz Heineken), também conhecido como pombo-da-madeira ou pombo-da-laurissilva-da-madeira, é uma espécie de ave pertencente à família Columbidae, endémica da ilha da Madeira.
The long-toed pigeon (Columba trocaz Heineken), also known as pigeon-of-wood-pigeon or laurel-of-the-wood, is a species of bird belonging to the family Columbidae, endemic to the island of Madeira.
Reproduz-se e abriga-se em cavernas e reentrâncias rochosas nas montanhas da ilha da Madeira, na zona de ocorrência da floresta laurissilva, de preferência áreas com onde exista abundância de til, árvore de cuja baga se alimenta, estando o seu número estimado em cerca de 10 000 aves.
Reproduces and shelters in caves and rocky recesses in the mountains of Madeira, in the area of occurrence of the laurel forest, preferably in areas where there is plenty of useful, berry tree which feeds, their number being estimated at about 10 000 birds.
A postura é composta por um ovo de cor branca, colocado num ninho numa reentrância de falésia. Com os seus 42–45 cm de comprimento, assemelha-se a um grande pombo-torcaz. É quase inteiramente de cor cinzenta, com o peito rosado.
The posture is composed of an egg white, a nest placed in a recess of the cliff. With its 42-45 cm long, resembles a large wood pigeon. It is almost entirely gray in color, with pinkish breast.
A ausência de quaisquer marcas brancas e a presença de uma faixa prateada no pescoço distinguem esta espécie das restantes do género Columba. O seu voo é rápido, efectuado com batidas regulares.
The absence of any white marks and the presence of a silver stripe neck distinguish this from other species of the genus Columba. Its flight is quick, performed with regular beats.
O seu levantamento é também barulhento. Quanto ao chamamento, trata - se de um arrulhar característico, semelhante ao do pombo-torcaz.

PERCURSO
O percurso inicia-se perto do posto florestal dos Lamaceiros, em Santo António da serra. Tem como principal objetivo dar a conhecer um trilho pouco conhecido e também um pouco da diversidade de aves que poderá encontrar ao longo do caminho.
The trail begins near the forest station of Lamaceiros in Santo António da Serra. Its main objective is to inform a rail and also a little known bit of diversity of birds that you can find along the way.
Outrora era uma das principais artérias de ligação entre o lado norte e sul do concelho de Machico, mas também era utilizado para fins agrícolas.
Was once a major artery linking the north and south of the municipality of Machico, but also was used for agricultural purposes.
Deverá iniciar a sua subida até o Pico do Suna. Há um fontenário perto do pico que vai dar a dois caminhos: o mais largo vai até à torre de vigilância de fogos na serra, o outro à esquerda vai dar ao Porto da Cruz.
You should start your ascent to the Pico do Suna. There is a Fontenário near the peak that will give two paths: the widest goes to the watchtower of fires in the hills, the other to the left will give the Porto da Cruz.
Não podemos deixar de notar a Torre de Vigia, que embora hoje já sem grande utilização, serviu, durante muito tempo, para o controlo dos incêndios nas nossas montanhas.

A descida para o Porto da Cruz é enfeitada por um conjunto de plantas indígenas que nos surpreendem pela sua diversidade. Os pequenos musgos e líquenes, as urzes, os folhados e os loureiros dão lugar aos terrenos de cultivo assim que a vereda se aproxima das habitações do Porto da Cruz.
The descent to Porto da Cruz is graced by a number of indigenous plants that surprise us by its diversity. The small mosses and lichens, the heather, the puffs and laurels give way to the farmland so the path approaches the dwellings of Porto da Cruz.
