Geocache Description:

I promised a powertrail at Googong Dam after all these months of hiding caches out here - and here it is! This is one of a series of 20 that goes on a loop trip on both the first part of the Western Foreshores track and to return, you continue on the Shoreline Walk. The series is dedicated to 20 songs created by my favourite band of all time - Queen.

And this cache is: I Want to Break Free

Album: The Works

Single Release: 2nd of April 1984 (UK)

Composer(s): John Deacon

Facts: This song ended up become a very controversial one by Queen. Another one by John Deacon that was one of the first Queen songs that was created entirely out of synthesiers. It has become an anthem all around the world for freedom. This also spawned a famous video, with the members dressing up in drag and showing many female stereotypes, which the Americans didn't appreciate, so the band became very controversial in the US.

Queen was a British rock band that got together in London in 1971. The band consisted of four members that brought many different qualities: Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, pianist and occasional acoustic guitar player), Brian May (vocals, guitarist), Roger Taylor (vocals, drummer) and John Deacon (bass). Brian and Roger studied at university together and were originally in a band called "Smile". After they split up, Freddie (who migrated from Zanzibar) formed a new band with Brian and Roger, along with John, who then became Queen. Together, they managed to create some of the most successful and iconic rock anthems of all time, which include talented skills in singing and playing. They are admired for their diversity in music styles, as they have attempted and succeeded at many genres of music, such as metal, rockabilly, opera, hard rock and even disco. Their songs target many different emotions, so they have be praised for creating songs for any mood that someone is in. Finally, their live performances have been identified as some of the best of all time, with the leadership skills of Freddie Mercury. The original band lasted until 1991 when Freddie Mercury unfortunately died of bronchopneumonia caused by HIV/AIDS. After Freddie's death and John's retirement, Brian and Roger have continued to promote the Queen legacy, with collaborations with other artists such as Adam Lambert.

The 20 caches on this trail are based on a compilation album released by the remaining members of Queen a few years ago called "Queen - Absolute Greatest". All the containers are 200ml sistema containers with a few small swaps and most are close to the path (with some requiring some bush bashing and hill climbing due to the lack of space on the trail). While on the track, get Googong Glimpse IV and Shannon's Shore (both by Tankengine). You should allow two hours to complete the series and we recommend doing the set route to prevent climbing too many hills. Enjoy a morning (recommended) or afternoon at Googong, by walking (riding is not recommended as the Shoreline walk doesn't have space for them) on this trail with great vegetation and views all around. It is not advisable to attempt this after heavy rainfall as there are some minor river crossings to make. Watch out for snakes but play the game and have fun!

NOTE: DURING DAYLIGHT SAVINGS, THE RESERVE IS OPEN FROM 8AM TO 8PM. IN NON-DAYLIGHT SAVINGS, THE RESERVE IS OPEN FROM 8AM TO 6PM. PLEASE DO NOT ENTER OUTSIDE OF THESE TIMES.
