Geocache Description:

St Peter, North Rauceby

ST PETER, NORTH RAUCEBY

St Peter, North Rauceby is a Grade I listed building, achieving the status on 1 February 1967.

The church serves both North Rauceby and South Rauceby. It is built with local Ancaster limestone and was mentioned in the Domesday Book.

The lych gate is Grade II listed, achieving the status on 11 January 1990. It was built in 1912 in memory of Maj Gen Mildmay Wilson. It is of limestone ashlar, with a timber frame and a gabled Colyweston slate roof.

The three-stage west tower of the church dates from the late 12th or early 13th century, and has a particularly fine broach spire, which is a Lincolnshire speciality.

The gabled south porch was built in the 13th century.

The chancel was erected in the 16th century, but fell into such disrepair a couple of centuries ago that it needed major restoration in 1853.

The stained glass windows were put in in the 19th century and were dedicated to local families.
