Geocache Description:

You are looking for a micro with just a log sheet so please bring your own pen. Cache is placed away from the church and grounds as they are a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
Can be found as a C & D or please enter through the gate and walk up the gravel drive to the church.

St Illid and Curigs Church

Llanilid Church is the oldest church in the area and is approximately half a mile outside the boundaries of Pencoed, to the east of the town in a beautiful country setting. Access to the church is by a drive across the “Rector’s Field”.

Parts of the church are believed to date before the Norman Conquest. The church was renovated in Victorian times, and has recently undergone interior refurbishment.

Alongside the church are the remains of an early Norman motte and there is a good example of 'raised' ringwork. The surrounding ditch is crossed by an entrance causeway facing the old parish church. The Norman castle was probably raised by the St Quintin family, who held the manor until 1245.

“If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
There is also a Church Micro Stats & Information page found via the Bookmark list”
