KURENT (tudi korant) je značilni pustni lik s Ptuja, Dravskega polja in okolice, v pustnem času nastopajo na tradicionalnem kurentovanju. Po izročilu s poskakovanjem kurenti s hudim truščem (zvonjenjem) iz dežele odganjajo zimo in zlo, vanjo pa kličejo pomlad ter dobro letino. Kurent ima na sebi ovčjo kožo, okrog pasu pripete zvonce, na glavi ima masko, na nogah pa gamaše. Poznamo dve vrsti kurentov, pernatega markovskega in rogatega haloškega.
KURENT (also korant) is a typical carnival character from Ptuj and surrounding areas. It appears in carnival time and during the Kurent Festival - Kurentovanje Ptuj. According to tradition Kurents by jumping chase away the winter and evil spirits and call the spring and a good harvest into land. Kurent's wearing is sheep's skin, around waist there are bells on the chain. On the head they have demonic mask and special knitted socks on their feet. There are two types of Kurent, feathered of Markovci and horned of Haloze.
MLADINSKO PRENOČIŠČE KURENT - IYH KURENT
Mladinsko prenočišče Kurent od leta 2003 deluje pod okriljem Centra šolskih in obšolskih dejavnosti, kar omogoča izvajanje šole v naravi. Program izpeljejo šole same. Šole izkoristijo tudi bazen v bližnjih ptujskih termah, da se otroci naučijo plavati. K nam radi prihajajo otroci osnovnih šol, dijaki srednjih šol, pa tudi študentje, različna društva in zavodi in seveda turisti.
Youth hostel KURENT - IYH KURENT
Youth hostel Kurent has been opened since 2003 under the auspices of the Centre's school and extracurricular activities (CID), which can also facilitates the implementation of the school program. Schools also benefit from a pool at the nearby Ptuj spa where children can learn to swim. IYH Kurent accept children from elementary schools, secondary schools, as well as students, various associations and institutions and of course tourists.
