Bromley Trinity United Reform Church
Another in the ever expanding Church Micro Series, started by Sadexploration.
This is one of several urban churches in this area of Bromley.
The church was founded at the end of the 19th century by 5 émigré Scots as Trinity Presbyterian Church of England and originally had a strong Scottish connection; these days the congregation is more cosmopolitan.
In the 1920s the church purchased the neighbouring corner site, which was a market garden, and is now the car park and main church hall.
On 21 June 1935 (Trinity Sunday) a lightning strike caused a major fire which destroyed the roof and much of the church. Firemen fought the blaze for five hours, after which all that was left were the walls, the tower and the organ. The fire, however, provided the opportunity to refurbish to a more modern standard.
In 1972 Trinity joined the union of the United Reformed Church and in 1995 celebrated the centenary by raising money to install disabled persons facilities in a newly decorated and panelled vestibule.
