Geocache Description:

The first record of the land that would become Metairie is the concession of 1720 called Chapitoulas Concession for the river people. Chapitoulas was evovoled into Tchopitoulas. . No place in Metiarie has that name. In Febuary of 1825 there was push to name the new parish Jefferson after president Jefferson, others wanted Tchoupitoulas Jefferson won because most new settlers did not want to be called Tchoupitoulaians.
