About SideTracked Caches

About Stixwould Station

Stixwould station had two brick faced platforms with the booking office to the rear of the north end of the up platform opening onto a waiting shelter on the platform. There were no buildings on the down platform. There was a signalbox on the other side of the crossing on the up side, this controlled the crossing and access to the small goods yard which comprised a single siding into a loading dock on the up side of the line behind the platform. The stationmaster's house was next to the signalbox.

The crossing only led to the pedestrian and single vehicle chain ferry across the river Witham linking to the fens, this was largely used by children going to school and railway passengers. The ferry ceased operation in 1970, in later years the postman was the only regular passenger with fishermen also using the ferry in the season. The goods service was withdrawn on 17th June 1963.

The booking office and up platform shelter was demolished in 1981. The Water Rail Way path runs through the station and there is car parking and a picnic area.
