Not too far from the roadway (one way). Up the steps.
This is an area seldom visited in the Park. It was built in 1922 and fell into disrepair and was a homeless hangout and party place. The doors on the restroom were welded shut. A few years ago, it was cleaned up and refurbished. You can still see one of the frescoes of a player, tossing a horseshoe, on the hillside. Sadly, the horse fresco. has been covered by landslide, recently. In general, it's a quiet place. The ghost of past gamesmen haunts the setting. It is from a simpler time. Perhaps, if you are lucky, you can watch the pit come to life with the clang of horseshoes, even if it is only in your mind's eye. Don't know if George Washington played horseshoes, but there is a picture of him for FTF! Congrats to deadley for FTF!
