New housing around the Arundel Road encouraged the founding of a church, of the same Anglo-Catholic character as the parish church, in 1899. Architects Wheeler and Godman replaced the temporary structure with the present flint and brick Gothic Revival-style church in 1908–10. An intended chancel was never added, and neither was a hall planned in 1949; the west wall is therefore plain. The font, reredos and lectern came from St Mary's Church.
