Geocache Description:

A glorious lake, a swinging walk in the woods, and a stroll down a country path. In winter it can be boggy. In summer the final part can be overgrown, so long trousers are advised, and the difficulty will fluctuate accordingly.

Max Booty is intended to be a series of caches where the emphasis is heavy on the booty. In order to have decent booty, you need a decent sized cache, so come prepared!

Lost in the Woods is a multipart cache set in woodland by the beautiful Henley Lake. Henley Park has a lot of history associated with it. It predates the Domesday Book, and even played a part in the WW2 War Effort.

The cache itself is a fairly large Tupperware container, which has been painted so that it doesn’t look so much like a fairly large Tupperware container. It contains the following:

A paperback book

A DVD (two kid’s movies.)

A nice domino set.

A bracelet.

An amusing picture. Its more than that, but difficult to explain. It would make a good fridge magnet if it had a magnet.

Log Book and pen.

A few plastic bags so you can practice CITO.

In the first page of the log book I have written a special word. If the FTF messages me with this word they will get due credit. So make sure you remove the page when you find it!

On with the cache:

The game starts here:

N 51 16.540 W 0 39.715

To get to the start coordinates, follow the sign to Henley Range, and stop before you get to the car park. Don’t park in the car park. The gate is normally locked, and there is a big layby just outside which should provide ample parking.

Once parked, go to these coordinates and you will find an old War Department marker (WD).  There is a four digit number there:

Waypoint 1

N 51 16.512 W 0 39.702

13AB

That gives you numbers A and B.

Now, walk around the lake following the path. Its a lovely place, and very peaceful, unless you happen upon a fishing competition. Eventually you will cross a sluice gate and head back into the woods to the next waypoint.

Waypoint 2

N51 16.(B+1)(A-4)0 W0 39.6(A-2)B

Here there is a small sign on a tree. C is above D

Next, head on down one of the various routes to the next waypoint. There are numerous possible paths, and some are muddier than others, so feel free to double back and try a different route if you find yourself sinking down to your knees in mud.

Waypoint 3

N51 16.1A(B+D) W0 39.7(A-C)(A-1)

Here you will see the remains of an old camp and a rather decent rope swing. If you have a child, or are young at heart, give the swing a go. Mind you don’t nut yourself on the tree though.

Anyway, its time to get some more numbers, so move ont to the next and final waypoint. Be careful crossing the road. Cars can zoom down here at great speed. You are staying on the side of the ranges until directly opposite the waypoint. You should now be standing OUTSIDE an electrical substation. Do not attempt to enter it. You are looking for a sign with a telephone number.

Waypoint 4

N51 16.0(B+D)(A-B) W0 39.9CB

Telephone Number: 0845 EF0 8090

Right, you now have all the letters you need. Go and grab your booty. When I first placed this cache this path was completely overgrown. It has now been cleared. However, I assume this is an annual event, so if you visit the cache in high summer you would be advised to wear long trousers.

This is the final cache location:

N51 15.A(B+D)(E) W0 39.(E+C)(A-E)(F-2)

Once you have found the cache, you can either retrace your steps, or continue up the path and take a left when you get the option. I can think of a number of reasons why you might want to go this route. It will eventually come out on a road, where you turn left to get back to the carpark.
