Prospective members of An Garda Síochána, the Irish police force, receive their initial training in Templemore.
In 1964, following the Government's decentralisation scheme, a large portion of an old Army barracks, the McCan Barracks, was assigned to the Garda Síochána (Guardians of Peace). Massive reconstruction took place to provide every facility required for a modern comprehensive training centre.
The college caters for intensive training for all new Gardaí, Specialist Unit courses, as well as on-going Professional Development for existing members of the force.
