wildniagara: Well it is with great regret but the time has arrived. This cache has been a great deal of work as nothing is allowed to remain on the Island as per the land managers who gave permission to place it here. March is a tricky time to travel here. You can rarely be assured safe ice or open water. I was shocked when the last 2 cachers reported open water.
A note to future visitors. There is good reason for the close dates. The first time I came here to replace the cache was at the end of the nesting season which at the time was August 1st. A few nesting birds returned late in the season and when I disembarked my kayak a tern left its young on the nest. A large herring gull immediately attacked the chick and ate it alive. A couple/few seasons later they extended the closed season by one month. Climate change is extending the nesting season and yesterday's find is testament to that.
Thank you to all who came out and for the great logs and pictures. This was one of those hides I was proud of as a geocacher. It was nice some muggles signed the logbook without stealing the cache. Almost seems like destiny it finally went missing as archival notice went out. If another cache is placed here I hope its a virtual or Earth cache. No one can steal that. I know I'll appreciate a reason to visit once again.
