Geocache Description:


In 1894, initial construction was completed on the Sugar Land Railroad. The original path of the railway took it from the Imperial Sugar factory in Sugar Land to the community of Duke, which was South of where the Houston Southwest Airport sits today. Just past Duke, in Arcola, the railway made a junction with the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe railroad.

The steam powered railroad was used to transport sugarcane from the plantations to the refineries. The section of track between Duke and the community of House, Texas (currently the intersection of Sienna Parkway, McKeever and Bee's Passage) was abandoned by 1917 after another junction had been constructed further South.

At the cache location, sit the remains of the bridge where the Sugar Land Railroad once crossed over Long Point Creek.
