Geocache Description:

This cache was originally hidden on the route of Cornish Gazza's walk across Dartmoor, the intention being to leave it there permanently.

The cache marks the corner of the newtake granted to the prison farm in the late 19th century. The lease on this land was returned to the Duchy by the Home Office in 2004. The prison farm has been let to a new tenant but nothing much has happened to this corner yet. This cache is within a SSSI. SSSIs are protected by law against damage, we normally need you to get specific permission to place a cache in a SSSI's but there is an agreement to allow geocaches on Dartmoor as long as the cache complies with the guidelines. This cache complies with the DNPA guidelines. For Guidelines see http://www.dartmoor-npa.gov.uk/visiting/vi-enjoyingdartmoor/geocaching If approaching from the North be aware that his cache is just outside the Merrivale Firing Area on which live firing and other pyrotechnics may be used. The area is generally open public access. One of the safety rules for public access is:- Do not, (and ensure that children do not) approach, touch or pick up any metal objects lying on the ground. Please obey all byelaws and locally posted information concerning times when the area may be closed. These may be physical barriers, flags or lights.
