Long before the Lost Creek Wilderness Area was created in 1980, Lost Creek was renowned for its unusual rock formations and underground streams. In 1963, a portion of what is today the Wilderness Area was designated as the Lost Creek Scenic Area under legislation that predated the Wilderness Act, which protects the area today. Three years later the area received additional recognition as the Lost Creek National Natural Landmark, a National Park Service designation that identifies and promotes conservation of “outstanding biological and geological resources.” This cache will take you down the Brookside-McCurdy Trail outside the wilderness boundary along the North Fork of Lost Creek.

Take County Road 56 (Lost Park Road) from Highway 285 for about 20 miles and park in the designated trailhead parking area. Head north through the campground until you reach the Brookside-McCurdy Trail, which will lead you to the cache.
