Ribeiras of Madeira, the places where most of the Levadas start.
Ribeira is the Portuguese word for streams or creeks. Madeira with its many valleys associated with its relative abundance of water, gives us many of these small Streams. Unfortunately many of them at some point of their trajectories have been transformed by man, losing its natural beauty. But because Madeira is very mountainous, most of the Ribeiras at some point of their course are inaccessible to all on man's transformations, maintaining all of that beauty that make them such a special place.
Lavadouros
The washerwomen formed during much of the twentieth century, an important contribution to the support of their families and occupied a prominent place in society, with a significant number of female workers, along with the women gathering water in jars of clay and women working in the fields. Were part of a certain revolution in habits and customs.
Small chapel
The people joined to build an oratory in honor of Our Lady of Fatima. This small chapel, where we can find the image of Our Lady, is intended primarily for the resident population, however, people from other localities are directed to the site to perform their prayers.
