A Cascata Encantada
Esta cache foi colocada pelos Saltadores da Corda Perdida na sua expedição aos confins da Levada da Ribeira da Janela, fazendo parte de um conjunto de caches lançadas nesse fim-de-semana por este grupo de amigos, numa zona ainda não explorada pelos geocacher’s. Sendo esta Levada uma das mais frequentadas pelos turistas que nos visitam, o grupo decidiu percorrer toda a sua extensão entre a câmara de carga da Central Hidroeléctrica da Ribeira da Janela/Parque de Merendas dos Lamaceiros e a Madre D’Àgua da Levada, culminando esta digressão com a subida da própria Ribeira da Janela até à Levada da Rocha Vermelha, um desafio bem aliciante.
Como se trata de um percurso extenso, decidiu-se efetuá-lo em 2 dias, havendo a natural necessidade de pernoitar. É esta sugestão que aqui deixamos a todos os que quiserem visitar este conjunto de caches. Se decidir fazer o mesmo percurso do que nós, não aconselhamos a fazê-lo sozinho nem de noite. É obrigatório o uso de lanterna, vestuário e calçado apropriado a longas caminhadas em terrenos variados e escorregadios. No vestuário constará o indispensável impermeável, pois por vezes pinga água do teto dos túneis, em particular no maior do percurso, com cerca de 1200 metros de comprimento. Especial atenção à logística necessária a uma pernoita. Obviamente, a tenda de campismo (e respetivos acessórios) e a existência de mantimentos básicos suficientes são essenciais para a sua comodidade e segurança.
Consoante o percurso escolhido e a vossa disponibilidade aproveitem para conhecer as belezas e os recantos da Levada da Ribeira da Janela, o leito da Ribeira, a Madre da Levada e para fazer as outras caches existentes na zona.
Subindo a Ribeira
Se optar por subir a Ribeira, deverá iniciar a “caminhada” no ponto que a levada da Ribeira da Janela se cruza com esta, o percurso é irregular e muda de ano para ano, não existe trilho marcado, terá saltar de pedra em pedra, subir descer, passar por cima de umas por baixo de outras, aproveite para contemplar a beleza da Ribeira, do vale e do poder da natureza que nos surpreende em toda a extensão da ribeira.
Na zona da cache e para continuar a subir terá de “escalar” um pouco o maciço rochoso à esquerda ou dar uma volta maior por entre a encosta de urzes. Optamos por levar uma corda que poderá ser útil neste e noutros pontos do percurso como segurança ou para ajudar os elementos do grupo que tenham menos aptidão para a escalada. Ao continuar a subida e seguindo ao encontro da Levada da Rocha Vermelha, terá de dar com a saída da ribeira à sua direita, esta serpenteia durante algum tempo a ribeira por entre Urzes, Silvado e pequenas derrocadas. Ao chegar à Levada da Rocha vermelha e se optar por ir ter ao Rabaçal, vá pela direita e suba a Levada das 25 Fontes, o trilho é ingreme e improvisado pela encosta acima devido à derrocada do antigo caminho.
Cuidados a ter na Ribeira da Janela:
- Levar calçado apropriado
- meias suplentes e sem costuras
- Levar água e alimentos
- levar protector, em grande parte da caminhada não terá sombra
- o percurso não deve ser feito só, o piso é muito irregular e facilmente pode haver uma queda ou entorse
- em toda a extensão da Ribeira encontramos enxames de Vespas, muito cuidado especialmente se for alérgico, deverá levar um antídoto consigo
- o percurso não é recomendado no Inverno nem nos períodos de chuva
- Consoante o nível de água e a altura do ano, em algumas partes do percurso terá de passar dentro de água (cuidado com o tmvl)
- A saída da Ribeira fica escondida e um pouco confusa, devido às pequenas derrocadas e ao silvado que tenta tomar conta do trilho pouco utilizado, tenha em atenção aos pontos de referência e não corra riscos desnecessários
- Em grande parte do percurso não terá rede móvel , tendo melhor cobertura na rede TMN
Recomenda-mos:
- A fazer o percurso sugerido, com calma e de preferência em grupo e em 2 dias aproveitando para um fim-de-semana diferente, com uma caminhada diferente, para fazer as caches do grupo e outras criadas ao longo da levada da Ribeira da Janela, Levada da Rocha Vermelha e/ou da Levada das 25 Fontes
- Leve fato de banho e aproveite para tomar um banho revigorante
- Se gosta de ir à pesca da truta, não se esqueça de levar a cana.

The Enchanted Waterfall
This cache was placed by the "Saltadores da Corda Perdida" Leapers of the Lost Rope, in their expedition to the ends of the Levada da Ribeira da Janela, as one of a set of caches launched on that week-end were this group of friends, explored an area not yet used by the geocacher's. This being one most tourist frequented Levadas, the group decided to go the entire length between the loading chamber of the Hydroelectric Plant of Ribeira da Janela / Picnic Park to the beginning of the Levada, culminating this tour with going up "Ribeira da Janela" water stream until the "Levada da Rocha Vermelha", making it a long and challenging trail.
As it is a long journey, it was decided to do it in two days, doing so makes it's necessary to stay overnight. This is the group suggestion for those who want to visit this set of caches. If you decide to do the same path that we did don't do it by yourself or at night time. It is mandatory to use a flashlight, clothing and footwear appropriate for long walks over slippery and changing terrain. It's essential to take waterproof clothing because sometimes water drips from the ceiling of the tunnels, particularly in larger one, with about 1,200 meters long. Special attention to the logistics required an overnight stay. Obviously, tent camping (and respective accessories) and the basic food supplies are essential for your comfort and safety.
Going up the Water Stream of the Ribeira
If you choose to go up the Ribeira, you must start "walking" at the point that the Levada intersects with the Ribeira, the Track is irregular and changes from year to year, there is no marked trail, you will to jump from stone to stone, climb down, climb over, go under, take your time to admire the beauty of the Ribeira Valley and the power of nature that surprises all the way.
In the area of the cache and if you intend to continue going up you will need to "climb" a little rocky formation on to the left or take a walk round and through the bush "Urze". We took a rope that can be useful in these and other waypoints as added security and to help group members who have less aptitude for climbing. By continuing to climb you will be meeting of the Levada of Rocha Vermelha, To do so you will have to exit the river on your right, it goes near the river bead for some time by the river between bushes of Urze, Spikes and small landslides. Arriving at the Levada and if you choose to go to Rabaçal, go right and up to the Levada das 25 Fontes, the trail is steep and the path improvised as the old path collapsed during bad weather.
Safety in Ribeira da Janela:
- Bring appropriate footwear
- Bring more than one pair of walking socks
- Bring water and food
- Sun Protective as large part of the walk you don't have shadow
- Don't go by yourselve, it is very irregular and you can easily a fall or sprain a ankle
- On the full extent of the Ribeira you might find wasps, be very careful especially if you are allergic, then should carry an antidote with you
- The route is not recommended in winter or with rain
- Depending on the water level and the time of year in some parts of the route will have to go into the water (careful with electronics)
- The way out of the Ribeira is hidden and confusing, due to small landslides and bushes trying to take care of the little-used trail, note the reference points and do not take unnecessary risks
- In much of the course will not have mobile network, have better coverage goes in the TMN operator
- Doing the suggested route, calmly and preferably in group in 2 days for something different,do the other caches that the group created and others along the Levada da Ribeira da Janela , Levada da Rocha Vermelha and / or Levada 25 Fontes
- Bring a swimsuit and take time to a refreshing bath
- If you like to go trout fishing, do not forget to bring your fishing rod.
