Scenic Yachats – Get Your Geocoin Here Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

GemOfTheOregonCoast: This cache and the associated tour remained active for almost 5 years. 350 coins have been given out for cachers from Oregon, USA, Canada and other locations outside of the US. It was intended to provide a tour of the Village of Yachats and the surrounding area. It has added to the Villages economic well being by attracting people to eat at local restaurants and stay in local lodging. By any measure this was a great success!

Geocache Description:

The Central Oregon Coast is home to Yachats, Gem of the Oregon Coast with great walking, hiking, biking, scenic, and historical sites. Filling in a passport with 20 passwords from 26 possible caches will earn you the Yachats Geocoin , a beautiful coin designed by ThunderingRocks.

There will be caches in Yachats village and then others that are located along the Yachats River and forest roads on Cape Perpetua. Some of the caches in the village may have been found in the past; however, they have been archived and re-established with passwords.

The scenic drive up the river and over the Cape Perpetua will take approximately 3-5 hours. The caches on the Geocoin list do not require any passes to obtain. The road up the river is a 2 lane county road while the remainder of the route is on forest roads. The forest roads are about 70% paved but they are one lane with numerous turnouts. All cache locations have safe pullouts near the caches except the ones on Cape Ridge which is NOT a forest road but an old logging road.

There are numerous caches around Yachats and on Perpetua that are not part of the coin search but will add to your cache numbers and may require a Coastal Park Day Pass. If you have never visited the Central Coast area, it might take a day or more to retrieve all of the caches within ten miles (approximately 110!).

The Passport can be viewed and printed at goyachats.com/Geocaching. When it is filled out with passwords from at least 20 of the eligible caches, take it to the above coordinates. Your passport will be reviewed for accuracy. You must have a valid geocacher name and have a validated passport to collect a coin. The final cache location is only available between 8:30 and 4:30, Monday thru Friday and not on holidays.

If you are visiting on a weekend and have completed your passport, contact YahotsWalker through Geocaching.com at GemOfTheOregonCoast, Arrangements will be made to validate your passport and send you a Yachats Geocoin.
