Cache In Trash Out is an ongoing environmental initiative supported by the worldwide geocaching community. Since 2002, geocachers around the world have been dedicated to improving parks and other cache-friendly places. Through these volunteer efforts, we help preserve the natural beauty of our outdoor resources!
Gaydon village dates back to 1248, where it was part of Cheshunt parish and largely owned by the Bishop of Lichfield. In Tudor times the Lordship of the area, if not of the Manor, was passed to the Askell family. Most of the oldest buildings that remain in the parish were built as the village grew wealthy under this family throughout the 17th Century. While collecting litter and suchlike around this lovely Warwickshire village, please do take the time to spot the older buidings and imagine how life would have been back in the days before the M40 cast rubbish into the area! A different quality of trash in those days, oh yeah!
The village takes a lot of pride in keeping the main roads and suchlike tidy, but unfortunately it's a bit of a battle against the motorway and passing (flying!) trash coming in, and so we (Sharon and Ant) thought it'd be nice to help out. We have arranged with the parish council to hold a CITO at the same time as our local Mega is happening, so if you are one of those cachers that wishes to help out the local environment and want to head through Gaydon, please consider signing up for the CITO and stop by the Mega Tent to collect some bin bags and suchlike.
Between 11:15am and 12:00pm (midday), stop by the Mega Sharant tent and pick up some trash and recycling bags, receive an important safety talk, and collect a suggested route map. You are of course free to wander where you will, but note that the trash collection point is in Gaydon at the Village Hall, which has been booked for us (see waypoint, it's opposite the Malt Shovel pub). One of us will be there from 1:00pm -3:00pm to help supervise rubbish drop-offs.
So - another smilie! There's an added incentive to come along to the Mega, do a bit of caching and 'give back' a bit for all this lovely - sunny - warm - dry weather that we'll be having!
We'll publish more details via logs and announcement as we get closer to the Mega day, so please log a 'will attend' or put this on your watch list to stay up to date.
Practicalities
If you have heavy (eg gardening) gloves, please bring them - We will have some to loan out but will want them back again! We're also trying to get hold of equipment to borrow like grabbers. We will supply bin bags and special recycling bags to help pre-sort different types of litter.
If anyone would like to volunteer for half an hour and help to organise, please email Click Here - being involved is a great way of learning how to do it yourself!
