Colorado Fun Fact:
Buckskin Joe, near Cañon City, was built as a movie set in 1957 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer director Malcolm F. Brown, by bringing together old buildings from around central Colorado, and assembling them into an old western-style town. The name was taken from the former mining town, now ghost town, of Buckskin Joe, west of Fairplay. More than 21 westerns were filmed in Buckskin Joe, including Cat Ballou (1965), True Grit (1969), How the West Was Won (1977), The Sacketts (1979), Conagher (1991), Lightning Jack (1994), and Cactus Creek (2010). In 2010, billionaire William Koch purchased the historic ghost town and moved it to his ranch near Gunnison.
