Geocache Description:

St John the Evangelist, Bromley

Another in the ever expanding Church Micro Series, started by Sadexploration.

The church was built in 1879-80 to replace a temporary iron structure which was built in 1870. A competition was held between five architects for the design, which was won by George Truefitt. He designed a church in the Early English Gothic style built of squared, snecked, uncoursed Kentish ragstone.

The design does not simply copy medieval features, but incorporates original concepts such as a swept down roof and elongated transepts which anticipate the Arts and Crafts movement. Fittings and stained glass from the late 19C and the 1930s survive, even though the church was bomb damaged during World War II. In 1950-51 Francis Spear designed 7 replacement windows for the chancel apse and a Te Deum window in the North Transept.

The church is Grade II listed.

The cache, a nano tube, is not at the given coordinates which are close to a bench to the memory of Elizabeth Murray May ABCD-EFGH. To find the location of the cache you will need to do the calculation below:

N51 24.(H-C) (A+E) (C+D)

E0 1.(A+C) (F-B) (H-D)

The final location is overlooked, so stealth is needed. The hint is quite specific.

This Church Micro replaces one by The Lion Man GC2H0CV which has been archived.
