CZ: Málokoho dnes napadne, že se malebný Český Krumlov podílel na přípravách provozu pražského metra. V Českém Krumlově byl v letech 1971-1973 testován prototyp eskalátoru.
V Praze se eskalátory objevily dříve než metro. Dřevěné eskalátory fungovaly v letech 1926–1935 v trase bývalé lanové dráhy na Letnou, a 19. března 1939 byl otevřen moderní obchodní dům Bílá labuť společnosti Brouk a Babka, jehož eskalátory byly dlouho jedinými v Praze.
V letech 1967–1968 byl vybudován a 2. prosince 1968 otevřen podchod pod středem Václavského náměstí, který se o 10 let později stal podchodem metra. Od počátku byl vybaven německými eskalátory Otis a jugoslávskými eskalátory Radnik.
Vývojem eskalátorů pro pražské metro byl pověřen národní podnik Transporta Chrudim. V Chrudimi byly vyvíjeny dva základní typy: pro přepravní výšku do 7 metrů a pro výšku 7–15 metrů. Prototyp kratší verze měl být zkoušen v Chrudimi a prototyp delší verze v Českém Krumlově. V Českém Krumlově byl prototyp o přepravní výšce 13,6 metru v oblasti Vyšehradu směrem k nádraží zprovozněn pro veřejnost 25. října 1971, trpěl však častými závadami a od 3. června 1972 byl mimo provoz. Od 24. listopadu do 7. prosince probíhal ověřovací provoz, ale pro havárii byl zastaven, znovu se podařilo několikatýdenní zkušební provoz obnovit až 5. dubna 1973. Úřední zkoušky proběhly 30. května až 3. června 1973. Fotografie ani další informace o osudu tohoto prototypu se nedochovaly, zbytky strojovny se dochovaly dodnes.

EN: Nowadays, just a few people realize, that between 1971-1973 the scenic city of Czech Krumlov had participated in the testing of an escalator for the Prague Metro.
In Prague, escalators appeared before the metro. Wooden escalators were in operation on the route of the cable way to Letná in the years 1926-1935, and when a modern department store Bílá Labuť of the Brouk and Babka company was opened on 19th March 1939, it’s long escalators were the only ones in Prague.
Between 1967-1968 the subway under the middle of Wenceslas Square had been built and it was opened on the 2nd December  1968. 10 years later, it became a part of a metro station. At the beginning, the subway was equipped with German escalators Otis and Yugoslav escalators Radnik.
A national company Transporta Chrudim was commissioned by the development of escalators for the metro. Two basic types of escalators were developed in Chrudim: one for the transport height up to 7m and the other for the height 7-15m. A prototype of the shorter version was to be tested in Chrudim, and a prototype of the longer version in Český Krumlov. The prototype in Český Krumlov was of the transport height of 13.6 meters, and it was opened for public in Vyšehrad on 25th October 1971. However, the eskalator was often out of service due to malfunctions.  A test operation lasted from 24th November till 7th December, and it was stopped due to an accident. Tests were resumed on 5th April 1973, and their official part ran from 30th May till 3rd June 1973. Photographs or any other sources of information about the prototype haven´t been preserved. The engine room residues can still be seen today.
