Geocache Description:

A camouflaged cache at a local "library"...but NOT your usual cache!. Pen or pencil required.

I have now adopted this cache, originally place by the Wild Wizzes, as I think it is a fab little location and worthy of being on the map!
About the Location

What do you do with one of those iconic red BT phone boxes when they are no longer being used?  Destroy it?  Rip it out?  Sell it for scrap?  You could, or you could do what the good people of Sandy Lane, Fillongley did when they learned that BT were going to remove the phone.... they bought it!

Yup, the red phone box that has been stood like a scarlet guardian for many years, now belongs to the local residents association!  BT removed the phone lines and all the other electrical goodies, leaving the box in situ.

But what do you do with a now redundant metal box?  Make it centre-piece of a sweet little garden.  And turn the innards into a library!  Inside the phone box is a book shelf full of books, which anyone can take, on the proviso that you leave a book in return.  The inside is also used for notices, and one or two people have even posted some poetry on the walls.

At the moment the phone box is looking a little tatty, but there are plans to spruce it up with a fresh lick of paint, making it stand proud amongst the houses once more!

When we visited the area searching for a couple of caches, we spotted this box.  We mused on how phone boxes could no longer be used for caches, but went to have a look anyway.  We were then surprised by what it was in reality, and then got to thinking: if this is privately owned, then it is now fair game for a cache.  All we needed to do was find the owner...

And we were absolutely delighted when, on a return visit, we bumped into exactly the right person!  So a big thank you to Pat of the Sandy Lane Neighbourhood Association for giving us permission to place this cache.

Please note: Stealth shouldn't be an issue here, as people will naturally assume that you are using their library.  The people in the house opposite the cache know about the cache, but there may be others about who don't.

About the cache

As this cache has so many favourite points, I wanted to come up with something a bit original, and hopefully something that will be respected by visitors to the library.  It is also very handy for a couple of nearby Wild Wizzes puzzle caches (also worthy of a visit!!): A Sitting Target  and Filmpotophobia 1 - The Amazing Cache.   But while you're here, why not also swap a book or two?

Please do not force anything open, and please make sure that you replace everything back as you found it!

About the Library

Just to make this clear - using the library is not compulsory!  If you have a book that you no longer want, why not bring it along with you when you log the cache?  Pop it on the shelf, and take one of the other books.  Please bear in mind that the condition of the books on the shelves at the time of placing are really quite good, so try to avoid dropping off books that are falling apart.  If you do use the library, please feel free to note in your log what books you swap in and out.  Please do not remove books from the library if you are not leaving one in its place!
