Sound the Alarm! Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

RobboAndMum: We visited here yesterday and found part of the cache lying on the ground but with the rest nowhere to be seen. The hide itself is also damaged beyond repair and with evidence of antisocial behaviour along with broken glass, we don't think it's a good idea to replace the cache, so a reluctant goodbye to this one.

Geocache Description:

This cache is located within the grounds of Necarne Estate, just outside Irvinestown.

Necarne Estate, run by Fermanagh District Council, is home to an international Equestrian Centre and is surrounded by Necarne Forest (FSNI).  There are walks through both the forest and the estate, and by following the paths around the estate you can get up close to the currently derelict Necarne Castle.

Although currently at Necarne you are most likely to see people lavishing TLC on their thoroughbreds, in the past care was given here to American soldiers when it was used as a military hospital in WW2 after being requisitioned by the United States Navy.  A mortuary, which held at least ten stone slabs, was also built at Necarne, and one of these has been preserved beside the castle.

The cache itself can be found in another part of Necarne, in a location which clearly shows further traces of its WW2 past.

A torch is recommended to find the cache once at GZ.

Pay close attention when you find the cache, as this is the first in a series of caches containing clues to the location of an additional mystery cache (Bottom of the Bottle - GC4KNE2). If you complete all of the caches in the series, you will be able to figure out where it is hidden, so note down the information you can gather from this cache, and keep it safe for use later.
