This is a series of caches that leads you to from Florence to Fiesole: you can walk (and this is the best way), ride a bike (but be prepared to steep uphill roads in the final part), drive (but be careful: some roads are very narrow).
Una serie di cache da Firenze a Fiesole: potete farvela a piedi (e questo è il modo migliore), in bici (ma aspettatevi forti pendenze nella parte finale), in macchina (ma alcune strade sono molto strette).
In the final part of Borgo Pinti, close to Piazzale Donatello, there were in the Middle Age hospices and infirmaries, then passed under the protection of the hospital of Santa Maria Nuova. There was founded the nunnery of St. Joseph in 1615 and the Educandato of St. Charles Borromeo to prepare girls to domestic life; by the name of the benefactor Carlo Gianni the boarders were called “Giannizzere”. In the middle of the eighteenth century the Educandato was absorbed by the Conservatory of San Salvatore of Beggars and there was then opened the Hospice of St. Anthony of Padua. Today the premises belong to the Institute of the Poor Daughters of the Sacred Stigmata, “Stimmatine”, who run the foster home for children “Santa Lucia”.
The magnetic cache is on the right side of the road (going to Fiesole), almost in front of the entrance of the Gherardesca Garden, which now belongs to a luxury hotel.
Nel tratto finale di Borgo Pinti, quasi in piazzale Donatello, vi erano nel medioevo ospizi e lazzaretti, passati poi sotto la tutela dell’ospedale di Santa Maria Nuova. Vi fu fondato il convento di monache di San Giuseppe e nel 1615 l’Educandato di San Carlo Borromeo per fanciulle da preparare alla vita domestica; dal nome del benefattore Carlo Gianni le educande furono dette “Giannizzere”.
Alla metà del Settecento l’Educandato fu assorbito dal Conservatorio di San Salvatore dei Mendicanti e vi venne poi aperto l'Ospizio di Sant’Antonio da Padova. Oggi i locali appartengono all'Istituto delle Povere Figlie delle Sacre Stimmate, o Stimmatine, che vi tengono aperta la casa-famiglia Santa Lucia.
La cache, magnetica, è sul lato destro della strada (andando verso Fiesole), quasi davanti all’entrata del Giardino della Gherardesca, che appartiene ora a un hotel di lusso.
