Church Micro 3701…Woodlands


The Church of St Mary the Virgin, Woodlands

St Mary’s Church, Woodlands, is reputed to be the smallest Anglican Church in the Diocese of Rochester. It is set in the heart of the Kent countryside and is built from local flint with a clay tile roof.

It was completed in 1850 having been commissioned by John Painter Vincent, twice president of the Royal College of Surgeons, whose son became the first vicar. The Church Hall, originally a school room, shares the same benefactor.

Both Church and Hall were designed by T. Talbot Bury and are both Grade 2 listed buildings. The Church is simple but well maintained and carpeted throughout, seats fifty people comfortably, and is almost always open. Re-tiling of the chancel roof was completed in 2009.

Although the churchyard is now closed for burials, it is still available for burials in existing graves and for the burial of ashes, and is maintained by Sevenoaks District Council. During early spring there are aconites and snowdrops, to be followed later by primroses and cowslips.

A nice simple Traditional Church Micro 
The cache has been placed here with the permission of the Vicar James Oakley and 2 Church Wardens and the Church Secretary.
In fact it was the Vicar, Who himself and his kids have just started Geocaching, It was he who suggested this hiding place so lets see how it goes
Probably best not to go looking for this When there is a Church service on as the Cache is hidden in the Porch of the Church.
The doors to the Church are always open and James the Vicar says fell free to look around, but please remember to close all the doors as you leave.
