This is the 83rd of a series in which a red telephone box is to be found within 20 feet of a red post box.
These iconic red phone boxes, designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott in the 1920's, have become collectors’ items and an example of things quintessentially English.
BT do not permit the placing of geocaches in their phone boxes as long as they own them.
Over 240,000 red telephone boxes were built between the 1920s and 1980s.
BT had replaced many red telephone boxes during the 1980s and 90s, leading to English Heritage to designate over 2000 as listed structures.
This telephone box in the village of Stansted, Kent has been converted into an Information Box, providing community news rather than worldwide communications. Villagers can still access the outside world by writing a letter though.
In this age of the mobile phone most red telephone boxes are rarely used. So Stansted School was given the challenge of coming up with a new use of the box, which is on Plaxdale Green Road.
The box was restored and painted in Union Jack colours and the grand opening was on the day of the Royal Wedding 29th April 2011, each window pane decorated with a child's drawing.
It has certainly become a village landmark and seems to be much admired.
