Geocache Description:

This cache was originally placed in 2013 as part of the Washington State Parks Centennial GeoTour - "100 caches in 100 parks to celebrate 100 years" - cosponsored by Washington State Geocaching Association (WSGA).

Bogachiel State Park was established in 1931 and is a thickly forested 123-acre camping park situated on the banks of the beautiful Bogachiel River. It is remotely located on the northwestern tip of Washington State at the edge of the Hoh Rainforest. The lush rainforest terrain is formed from the dense rainfall that averages 140-160 inches per year in this region. The forest consisting of cedar, Douglas fir, hemlock, assorted wild berries, ferns, mosses and lichens is home to elk, deer, the occasional black bear, crows, majestic eagles, along with smaller wildlife. The river can be somewhat calm or wild, but beautiful nonetheless. Depending on the time of year, is the spawning ground for salmon and steelhead. A park ranger can let you know where public access to the river is.

Park Hours: 8:00 a.m. to dusk. For current information regarding camping fees, accommodations, check-in and check-out times, restrictions, etc., visit the Bogachiel State Park page.

The cache: As you enter the park, you will drive through the gate and start around a slight curve. On your right is a day-use parking area next to the trailhead. You will take a very short walk down the duff trail.

You are looking for a plastic ammo can. Rating is due to the tree cover; you will need to use your geosenses and let your GPSr settle down. This is a rainforest, so I've sealed everything in heavy Ziploc bags. Please reseal things well to protect the cache and keep it fun for everyone. There are extra bags in the bottom if the current one become damaged. If none are there, let me know so I can add more. Please follow caching etiquette: If you take something, leave something equal or better. Take the time to enjoy the rest of the short trail and have fun!
