Geocache Description:

This cache was originally placed in 2013 as part of the Washington State Parks Centennial GeoTour - "100 caches in 100 parks to celebrate 100 years" - cosponsored by Washington State Geocaching Association (WSGA).

Brooks Memorial State Park is a 700-acre, year-round camping park near Goldendale, located between the barren hills of the south Yakima Valley and the lodgepole pine forests of the Simcoe Mountains. Over 9 miles of hiking trails lead along the Little Klickitat River and up through Ponderosa pine and Oregon white oak forests. At the top are open mountain meadows with a panoramic view of Mount Hood. Visitors may see deer, beaver dams, squirrels, spring wildflowers and a variety of birds.

Acquired in six parcels between 1944 and 1957, Brooks Memorial State Park is named for and dedicated to area citizen Nelson B. Brooks, who is credited with establishing an excellent community road system. The park features a nice monument to the Honorable Nelson B. Brooks.

Nature talks are given to groups at the Environmental Learning Center (ELC) upon request. Tours and programs may be arranged through park rangers. Call the park at 509-773-4611 for more information.

Growing up as a kid I camped a couple of times at Brooks Memorial, and enjoyed walking around the various trails, exploring nature. When I was in elementary school our class took a field trip here to do the nature walk. I remember enjoying that. Please take time to check out the monument, and if you can, call ahead and schedule a nature tour!

Park Hours:
Summer: 6:30am to dusk
Winter: Closed November through April
