HOBO CITO Campout - Hidden Lake Campground Event Cache

Ya'll don't want to miss this! A brainstorm idea from the GeocacheAlaska! forums, we have strung together 4 CITO events from Homer to Girdwood for a fun-filled Geocaching weekend! Join us on the weekend of May 17-19 to help clean up SouthCentral Alaska. We will start out in Homer on Friday evening for a dinner and camp out followed by CITO events on Saturday in Homer and Soldotna, a second camp out at Hidden Lake (Cooper Landing) and then CITO events on Sunday at Hidden Lake and finally in Girdwood on GeocacheAlaska!'s Adopt-A-Highway section. A total of 7 separate events will guide you along the path of our Hobo Cleanup Crew.

This event will be in the camping area at the Hidden Lake Campground near Cooper Landing in the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. Yes, we have permission from the KNWR to hold a geocaching-related event at this location. Those who are with the Hobo Cleanup Crew to attend tomorrow's CITO event will be logged into the campground as Refuge Volunteers and do not have to pay the camping fee. The campground will be open to the public, but we are expecting to have the cluster of campsites around this event location reserved for us. Please post a Will Attend log right away so we can request enough space. Join us at 8pm where the GeocacheAlaska! banner is displayed for social time around the campfire with some tall tales about our extreme geocaching adventures. Bring your favorite beverage and snacks. Bring your own camping gear to include tent and sleeping bags.

To get to Hidden Lake Campground, turn south on the "north" (east) end of Skilak Loop Road a few miles west of Cooper Landing. You will have to negotiate 3.5 miles of rough dirt road before reaching the campground entrance. This road is always in bad condition after breakup, so it is recommended that you bring a vehicle with Alaskan ground clearance and drive carefully. The roads in the campground are paved and the site has good facilities.

Following this camp out event, the HOBO Cleanup Crew will get a good night's rest in preparation for another day full of CITO events. In the morning, we will break camp and perform a thorough CITO on everything in the campground that isn't still covered by snow! We look forward to seeing you there!
