Geocache Description:

Every year the Indiana Fall Picnic travels to different parts of Central and Southern Indiana. As we debated the location for the 12th Annual Indiana Fall Picnic we just couldn’t pass up beautiful Ripley County.

Ripley County is rich in Indiana history. Here you can travel the same areas as John Hunt Morgan and his raiders or gaze upon the spot where the Underground Railroad took those scared souls north to freedom. You can drive over stone arch bridges and even partake in a dying breed, a Drive-In Theater. Most importantly, you can come enjoy the fun at the Indiana Fall Picnic.

The weekend will begin with a Friday evening Meet and Greet (GC4AMFF) where it’s time for a little food and some great companionship. It’s always hard to decide, do you eat or do you talk? Try to manage a little of both. Share a table with some new and old caching friends as you chow down on a Vegetable Beef Soup Dump.
br/> Of course, you will want to hang around for the Night Cache. Don’t forget to put a flashlight on your packing list. You will need it.

Saturday’s Fall Picnic will be an entire day of fun, socializing and events at the Oak Grove Shelter area. The day’s activities are:

REGISTRATION: "Will Attend" logs on the cache page are encouraged but DOES NOT register you for the day's events. REGISTRATION is requested. Please include everyone on the registration form regardless of age. This information is used during planning and most importantly to create registration packets, including lanyard nametags. Registrations submitted by August 17, 2013 are guaranteed a lanyard name tag and registration packet. After this date, these items are not available, however name tag labels will be available for late registrants.

PITCH-IN LUNCH: Everyone is asked to bring a contribution for the pitch-in lunch. Pitch-in contributions will be exchanged for meal tickets. A pitch-in only works if everyone who eats at the buffet has contributed. Please remember that if you do not contribute to the meal, you will not be given a meal ticket.

If your last name begins with A-Q, please bring a homemade side dish. Last names that begin with R-Z, please bring a family size dessert. Food for thought ... every year we received an overabundance of deli potato salad, coleslaw and macaroni salad. Please consider another option so we don’t have to throw food away. Also, please be sure your dish is pre-cut (if necessary) into portions, to keep the line moving efficiently.

We tried something new that worked great last year (thanks to you!) and will be continuing the practice in 2013. We are asking that all guests CITO by carrying out their own trash at the end of the event. Trash bags will be provided.

DONATIONS, PRIZES & RAFFLES: Door prizes will be drawn throughout the day. Donations and contributions are greatly appreciated but not required. Be sure to take a look at our raffle items or take a chance on our 50/50 drawing.

MERCHANDISE: Support the Fall Picnic. The sale of logoed merchandise helps defray the cost of the picnic. For additional information, please see the Fall Picnic website. Deadline for pre-orders is August 17th.

GEO-CHALLENGE (17 & under): Have you wanted to get out there with the GeoSurvivor contestants? Here is your chance to get in on the fun. GeoChallenge offers you the opportunity to play a youth version.

GEO-SURVIVOR (Ages 18+): Are you ready for a challenge? REGISTER to put your name in the hat for a spot on one of the GeoSurvivor teams. GeoSurvivor has always been the Fall Picnic’s premier event. For the brave at heart take a chance and try your hand at some exciting challenges. A drawing will be held to determine participants and will be announced at the picnic kick-off on September 7th at 9:45am. Registration deadline is August 31st.

LODGING: A local hotel is available in Versailles. Several others are also available in nearby Batesville and B&B’s are located in Milan and Osgood. Versailles State Park has beautiful campgrounds. Camping reservations can be made at ReserveAmerica. If you are camping, post your site number on the Geocaching Midwest Forums Fall Picnic post or on the Fall Picnic Facebook page.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The Fall Picnic website will provide additional information. Don’t forget to put a WATCH on the event cache page for any future announcements.

We are looking forward to a fun filled weekend. Can’t wait to see you there.
